About Todd
I became interested in pursuing a career helping others with their bodies after experiencing and then overcoming some debilitating chronic pain in my twenties. During this experience I developed two things – an obsessive interest in learning about how the body works and a strong empathy for others going through chronic pain.
I’m now 43, play several sports, do what I want to do, and feel terrific in my body. I feel better now than I did in my twenties, so I know that it’s not all about aging. Anyway, my personal experience has made me extremely optimistic about the potential for improvement that everyone has and I want to share this with my clients.
My Approach
My approach as a therapist is to be as evidence and science based as possible, while at the same time acknowledging that there are many areas that science hasn’t reached yet, and that in these instances, effective therapy is an art based on experience and intuition. I also try to make sure that my clients are never in discomfort during a session, as this is counterproductive.
Education
I have been practicing Rolfing for seven years. To become a Rolfer, I graduated from the Rolf Institute in Boulder Colorado. Prior to that, I practiced law as an attorney in downtown Seattle for seven years after graduating from the University of Washington School of Law.
I am currently a third year student in the Feldenkrais Method and am certified to teach Feldenkrais movement lessons. I have recorded many lessons which I make available to clients for free. I have also attended numerous Z-Health certification trainings covering a wide variety of topics including restoring normal movement through joint mobility drills, strength training, sport specific training, visual and vestibular testing, and manual therapy techniques.
I also read obsessively about anything related to human movement health, including pain science, movement science, neuroscience, evolution, nutrition, etc. I write about many of these topics at my blog.
Personal
I’m an avid athlete and play squash, soccer and tennis. I’m intensely interested in almost any form of physical training or movement therapy such as Feldenkrais, Z-Health, yoga, pilates, kettlebells, crossfit, “sport specific” training, martial arts, and weight training. I have a Buddhist practice which mostly involves owning a dalai lama calendar. And I have a wonderful wife and two daughters.
